Where Learning Music Feels Like Play

At Our Sound Playground, we believe learning music should feel like play — joyful, hands-on, and full of discovery!

In our online group piano, singing, and ear training classes, kids build confidence, master musical skills, and make lasting friendships in a supportive community.

If your child is just starting out, we offer beginner-friendly online programs for ages 7-9, designed to spark a lifelong love of music and connection. Through playful learning, movement, and creative activities, we help music stick — so kids stay excited and engaged.

Learning That Grows With Your Child

Music learning doesn’t look the same at every stage — and it shouldn’t.

At Our Sound Playground:

Our ear training club focuses on clear listening strategies and thoughtful guidance, helping students feel confident and prepared as they approach their exams.

Our group piano programs are intentionally small and relationship-based, designed to support steady growth over time without pressure or rush.

I send thoughtful notes about music learning —sometimes from my studio, sometimes from life as a mom of two, sometimes from the things I’m building behind the scenes. They’re always rooted in helping children experience music with more confidence, connection, and joy. From time to time, I also share new classes, YouTube videos, and free resources as they’re created.

“Music class is so much fun! I really love playing the piano and I love learning with Ms. Helen… I also love practicing because each day I get better and better.”

Dhyana

Student

Mrs. Helen is a very patient and undersanding music teacher. She helped me find strategies that worked well for me, and I was able to perform very well under herguidance.

It is clear that she is very devoted to making sure her students do their best with the effort she puts into her lessons and her lessons and her encouraging attitude.  Class with her has always been very fun, and I'm grateful I got to have her as a teacher.

Alessandro, Singing student

"Helen is a kind and dedicated teacher who wants her students to be successful and grow as musicians.  She has been working with my son for over five years and we have seen him develop as a singer over this time.

We are thankful to have her preparing our son for auditions, his RCM exams and concerts and for supporting him with so many musical opportunities."

Meet Helen

I’m so glad you’re here.

I created Our Sound Playground to be a warm, supportive place where music learning feels whole, embodied, connected — and fun — a place where children feel safe to try, teens feel understood, and families feel supported

With over 25 years of teaching experience — and two young children of my own — I believe music should build confidence and connection, not anxiety. I’ve supported hundreds of students at different stages — from joyful early beginners to focused exam learners — and I care deeply about meeting each student where they are.

Whether your child is just beginning piano or preparing for an RCM exam, I’d love to help you explore what joyful, thoughtful music learning can look like.

Why Families Choose Our Sound Playground

Our approach to music education is rooted in joy, emotional safety, and real understanding — not pressure or perfection. Whether a student is beginning their piano journey or preparing for an RCM exam, our focus stays the same:

confidence, understanding, and connection.

We believe students learn best when music feels meaningful, supported, and integrated into real life — not rushed, isolated, or stressful.

Community & Support

Students learn best when they feel supported, encouraged, and part of something shared.

connection

Music connects students to themselves, to others, and to their families — creating meaning beyond the lesson.

Integrated Learning

Music learning works best when the mind, ears, eyes, and body learn together — not in isolation.

Sweet & Sticky Learning

Learning should feel enjoyable, memorable, and rewarding — so it naturally sticks without force or pressure.

Celebrating Small Wins

We celebrate effort and progress along the way, helping students build confidence one step at a time.

Whole-Body Learning — Music You Can Feel, Not Just Read

Music makes more sense when it’s experienced with the whole body — not just the eyes and fingers
Before students focus on notes alone, they move, listen, sing, and explore. This helps rhythm, pitch, and musical patterns settle more naturally and confidently.

Whole-body learning helps students

For younger children, this looks playful and exploratory. For older students, it builds stronger listening skills and more reliable exam performance.

This approach supports joyful beginners and focused exam learners alike.
